CAFÉ AU LAIT on Toronto-Lime.com

TORONTO-LIME.COM has posted a release on Café au Lait. I know some of you non-Trinis are wondering why a Toronto site about citrus fruits is mentioning a romance novel. Well, here we go: Lesson 1 - Speaking like a Trini.

lime
Origin: Trinidadian
Meaning: (v) hanging out/socialising in an informal relaxing environment, especially with friends, for example at a party, or on the beach. Usage: "We liming on the beach today."
(n) an event at which liming takes place, e.g. a party. A gathering of people engaged in activities associated with liming. Often qualified using an adjective e.g. big lime. Usage: "That party going to turn out be a big lime."
Ref: The Urban Dictionary

This is good going and Toronto-Lime is a very popular site. I see you have some great reviews listed :)

akalol, I was hoping you'd notice that! Yup, the This Beach Called Life review and link are now on my official press release! :D

TORONTO-LIME is also going to do a review, so I'm looking forward to that too - and of course I'll link it on the blog when they do.

Wow, there's a lot of stuff happening on that site! the colours, the sparkle!

I wish I could take credit, being near Toronto but I'll bow to the experts.

Great coverage and thanks for the Trini-lesson. Am looking forward to slipping that into conversation :0)

I have used "liming" once already, but no one noticed. An indication I think that none of my coworkers actually listen to me.
I'll put it in a story somewhere.

Congrats on the publicity, Liane. I'm looking forward to the review.

(And as soon as I get my replacement copy.....)

Sandra, Toronto-Lime site is like our Carnival, colorful and kinetic. Where did I get the idea that you were on the Pacific side of Canada anyway? You're much closer than I thought.

Tam, you just might get blank stares if you do, or earnest queries if you write it: Um, Tam, is that a typo or something? :)

Flowerpot, LOL! I've seen several of our local expressions go viral lately, such as 'mashup' and 'wine' - no, not the kind you drink, but the kind you dance - so I won't be surprised it this one does too!

KeVin, you do make me laugh. I can just imagine those people saying: That weird guy - don't know what he's talking about half the time! Well, that's their loss, eh? [Your replacement copy is packaged, labeled and seated in my mother's car, so surely that must means it's virtually on your doorstep...]

Liane Spicer said...

...surely that must mean...

Been staring at this screen too long.

I have learned something new. I can now smugly say to my local friends, "You don't know what liming is? Who doesn't know what liming is? Huh!" And toss my hand with impatience. LOL

Congrats, Li!

I'm with Kevin, I'm working this into conversation somewhere.

Congrats on the mention.

I've recently read your novel and thought it was FAB :o)

:D, Stephe! Thank you.

Thank you, Kim. Maybe I'll be in your neck of the woods some time and we can go liming!

Karen, you did! Thank you!
