Birthday boy

The boy with his trusty surfboard. They're inseparable.

Last week my son turned 25. I'm still in recovery. Honestly, I don't know how it happened: doesn't seem that long ago since he was enchanting us with his baby ways, and now he's a man. Does that mean I'm old? How do parents deal with this growing up business? I think I need some kind of therapy.

It's been quite a journey, and throughout I've always been acutely aware that I'm a lucky mom. My friends tell me I did a great job raising him. I think he raised me as much as the other way around.

So, to one of the best people I know, one of the kindest, the gentlest, the wackiest, with that great big heart: HAPPY BIRTHDAY! May God continue to bless and protect you, to guide you through life's testing times, and to strengthen you to meet the challenges that always lie ahead. Luv ya, boy!

*Sharp intake of breath* Oh Liane, I am embarrassed. I thought this was one of your 'hottie' posts ... it's not. Gosh, but it so could be! He's gorgeous... Ahem. Lovely looking Son, you must be very proud.

I'm going now.

Here too -- thought it was hunk of the month time.
I'm all confused now beceause I'm choked up about the parenting part and all "koo koo ka choo" on the twenty five year old part, and double whammy on that last bit because he's a son of a friend...

Okay, I think it's all getting back in perspective.

Sweet post, my babies are still little and I wish it were slower.

JJ and Calistro, LOL! Oops! Yes, that's my baby, but it's all right if you got the wrong idea at first. I'm used to women staring at him ever since he was a little boy. I am indeed proud of him - he's a very nice person.

Kim, ditto the above. Enjoy yours to the hilt because these years will be gone in a flash.

Just verified on Google Maps.
About 2000 miles separate your son from my daughters.
I'm comfortable with that.

On a related topic:
I don't think anyone has explained the process by which our children age while we remain unchanging....

I have to admit my instant reaction was the same as jj, calistro, lane, and the others. What a beautiful son you have, I'm not surprised you're such a proud mum.

My son is now 17 and I can't believe he suddenly seems so grown up. It feels rather strange when they become so independent and I can't help wondering where all those years have gone.

Does your son know he's become the love god of the blogosphere???

Don't suppose he'll mind too much ...

Lane and Flowerpot, I don't think he'd mind a bit...

Pat, your granddaughter is 23? Now I do feel better! :) She's a lucky girl to have such a vibrant, youthful grannie!

akalol, :) Now don't be fresh!

Kevin, LOL! 2000 miles are nothing these days. He's busy romancing a former schoolmate who's all the way across in the UK. Hope that makes you feel better... If you stumble across any clarification of the children-aging dilemma, please clue me in.

Debs, it's weird, isn't it? And I used to think I'd be all prepared and blase about the child growing up, like a proper modern mum.

Debi, the what of the blogosphere? Uh-oh... What have I done? :)
